Here is a wonderful Burled Walnut Longcase clock, London mid-18th Century made by Richard Duck. The oversized eight day brass striking movement is constructed with a five pillar configuration. The composite brass dial with applied spandrels, chapter ring, seconds bit, calendar aperture and name boss in the arch. The case is constructed with Walnut and Burl Walnut veneer as the primary woods and Oak secondary woods. Note the oversized, early cast brass strap hinges that retain the waist door. The bonnet is fitted with a “sarcophagus” or tomb top and adorned with blind fretwork across the face board. This clock was restored by A & A Gaines in Newport Rhode Island many years ago. The overall dimensions of the clock are 98 X 20 X 11 inches. The lead filled brass shelled weights are original and so are the finials, winding crank and pendulum. There was a top finial/plinth in the center at one time that has been removed to accommodate the height of the ceilings.
